Cooper Tire Reviews
This is my second set of 305-60/18 ST/MAXX. I got 50K+ miles out of my first set.
Tried my first & only set of Cooper ST MAXX. I’ve had other Coopers on other vehicles & had been pleased, but these were only good for the first 5-10,000 miles, started cupping out, though I rotated them often, I’ve left them in the truck for a couple years, as I only use the truck on weekends but finally worn them down enough & ready to replace. I won’t be buying another set of these, the ride on the truck has been at its worst the past year as the tires got worse & worse. I’m hoping my new choice will smooth out the ride.
Have approximately 40k on the tires. 235/80r17 Hoping to eek out another 10k? On dry pavement, gravel and dirt the tires are great. Add some moisture and they become downright scary. Haul heavy loads, tow heavy trailer, they do fine when the road is dry. But the road isn't always dry, and that's when you need traction most. I can't recommend them. Love Cooper's, just not the St Maxx.
This is one of the best tires that I've ever used on a truck. It is good in snow and mud, as well as on wet pavement. In fact the traction remains good, even with 3/4 of the tread worn off. I'll definitely buy another set.
Good off road traction and winter traction. Very loud tires, not a good towing tire. Even aired up to 65 psi these tires are very squirrely under load.
These tires are absolutely AMAZING. I never got the truck aligned and these tires only had 500 miles apiece drove 40,000 miles on them and they've held up great.
I've had these tires for a little over 40000 miles and they've held up excellent. Mostly highway and rock roads but in the snow or mud I've never had a problem and never really used 4WD. Great tires!
I was surprised by how quiet these tires are on the highway. These are outstanding snow and mud tires as well. We just had a 12" snowfall and I never had to use 4WD to get around. I purposely found an untouched gravel road after that snow to try them, they performed flawlessly. Looking forward to the next snow storm.
Only 15000 km on them so far but hard to believe some of the areas they have gotten me into and out of. Cleans mud very well and just keeps digging. Can't wait to try the stt pros.
62,000 miles on highway and on white rock roads. Going to go buy a new set for my 2002 Chevy z71. The gas mileage went down a bit for the 10 ply, but outside that no worries at all. Never a flat tire or any other situation other than normal wear. Keep them rotated with a little less air pressure in the rear "if not hauling" and they will do great. Little road noise, but normal if not lesser than any other tire I have ran.
I run these tires year round in northern VT and they do great, whether it's through a few feet of snow or a muddy spring time road these tires hook up and go. They look good and wear very well.
Great tires.
I run these tires on the rear of my dually and have been very impressed. I have approximately 5000 miles on so far and they are holding up surprising well considering the terrain and loads they've been exposed to. They've carried me through wet red clay, powdery red dirt with hidden rocks, over lava fields and even bits of obsidian. They have hauled loads of 1.5 cords of oak firewood on rough forest roads, and taken my 4500# cabover camper to some very remote locales without hesitation. I have worked and played in the forests of this great land for 40 years and these tires have impressed me when compared to tires I've used in the past. I only gave them a 4 rating on snow, because I haven't had them in snow yet. They don't have much in the way of siping, which really helps the bite in snow and ice, so I can only figure the traction will be reduced from a 5 rating. Would I buy these again? HECK YA!
Great tires from a great company.
Excellent tires for the money. Also wear very well on gravel and highway. Very low road noise for this tire.
These are my third set of Cooper tires on this truck and they just keep getting better with each new incarnation of their tire design. Strongly recommend.
Great looking tire. Would love to buy again.
These are awesome tires. I use them everyday on my work truck.
I have a set of these with 5k miles in size 255/85-16E on my 1 ton Dodge 4x4 quad-cab pickup. The truck is used almost exclusively to service a mountain ranch at 6Kft.,130 miles from the beach in Southern California - twice a month. The trip includes 80mph on the freeway, 55-70 mph on a twisting 2-lane mountain road to 4k elevation, then 10 miles of dirt back roads comprised of granitic loam, holes, lumps, washboard and sharp loose rocks - often towing a loaded trailer. Pretty impressive tire for this purpose, and it's as if Cooper designed them using the same roads I drive - they are impressive. No tire can excel at everything, but the compromises this tire model exhibits are easily acceptable for their performance in the ways that really count. So, while they yowl very mildly when hammered around a mountain road curve, they are very quiet on the freeway. And while they don't deliver quite the mileage performance of a pure street tread, they aren't bad and hook up nearly as well in snowy mud and rocks as a purpose-built off-road race tire. The last time I owned a set of tires this impressive in comparison to other options was in the 70's. My buggy friends and I still morn the passing of the Norseman Tru-Track. This has a very similar tire 'personality' with clear improvements to rough ground traction and compounding for better winter traction/general wear. Balance and roundness of each tire is excellent. As for mileage, if I get 20k miles from them I'll be stoked. I've never got more than 25k miles from any tire brand or model. I seem to kill tires and sneakers for some reason. I have Michelin's on 5 of my 7 vehicles but they don't offer anything as good in this category nor do they offer this specific size. Try finding a 33" tall tire that isn't way too wide for effective trail work. Thank you Cooper for having the intelligence and guts to offer a tire size and design that works, rather than only balloon tires every 17 year old wants on their trucks 'cause they look cool". I think these tires look awesome by the way, but I'm old and experienced, so who am I to say.
For the cost of these vs Hankook buy the Hankook. I purchased set of these 11-2016 so far I have put 5,000 miles on them. What I noticed that really concerns me is the amount of flex in the sidewall. Over 40 mph make a quick manuver you'll feel the truck sway very bad almost like towing heavy load out of control. My Hankook's never did this and I have had 2 sets of them. For traction they seem fine, but I also know 2 others that have them and both complain about the excessive wearing. I will go back to Hankook when these wear out if not sooner, I may just pull these and sell them. I am not impressed at all with the performance of this tire. My uncle use to work for Cooper and swore by them, sorry uncle but they suck
I'm a forester and put a lot of miles on logging roads each year. I am on my 3rd set of these tires now and the first 2 both survived 75,000 miles! That's through mud, 4" gravel, snow/ice, logging debris, creek crossings, etc. These tires have never "chipped" out like others I've had. They also ride quiet on the highway. They clean out as good as mud tires. They don't bear the mountain snowflake emblem but I don't know why because they have not let me down in snow and ice. To me, they are the best tire for all conditions! I will be buying a 4th set soon!
Hello i purchased these tires on 10/14/2014 for my 2007.5 chevy silverado 2500 HD Diesel truck. Size 265/75/R16 I commute mostly to work and back 20 mile round trip. I am a casual driver and pull trailers a couple times a month. My truck had 94685 miles and 116607 miles any the tires have less than 1/8" of tread left. These tire only have 21922 miles on them. Im extremely disappointed in the life of the tires. I have rotated the tires 3 times in 21000 miles.
3 of the 4 tires have radial pull. I can only rotate front to back. Cannot cross side to side. Annoying to say the least. Was told by Big O that condition was common in truck tires. Never had it happen in any other brand. Not too bad noise wise-I expected it. Dry performance is pretty good, but mud and snow and ice isn't as good as I expected with an aggressive tread like this. Overall, I'd say its ok for highway use, but not much else. I'm disappointed.
Have these on a 2014 ram 3500 6.7 CCSB. 15k miles so far, probably about 15-20k miles left which is pretty good for these trucks. I have the 295/70/18 on stock rims. Located in Northwest WA they see varying road conditions. Offroad they do great, throw gravel though so be mindful. Winter months no issues at all with rain/slush/snow/ice. I have no issues driving in the winter. For those that apparently blame the sipping for inability to drive in the winter get them sipped at discount tire. I lost 2 mpg going with a bigger/wider tire (almost 35x12"). Was to be expected however. Only issues are they get a tad noisy, not real bad like a true mud tire. They are also a bit squirmy when first installed, after a few hundred miles all good. For those that claim a rough ride adjust your air pressure. Mine are front 65# rear 45#, air the rear up as you load the truck. I will be buying again.
On my third set of these tires, do a lot of Mixed Driving Highway, Offroad Pipeline conditions, Great all-around tire ! Very quiet when they're new but they do tend to get loud as they wear, keep them rotated and they have an above average tire life for the aggressiveness. Live in Southeast Texas lots of rain and lots of high temperatures not sure how they will do in the snow, but they perform well here
Over 32k miles and tires show very little wear. Most say they look brand new Quiet and smooth
I installed 275/70/18 ST Max's on 2015 Duramax w/ leveling kit. Looks awesome!!! Thought I needed rims, the tires look so good that they make the look of the truck! Pulling camper, living in the country, snow, the tires are a perfect fit. Very surprised by the quiet ride. Highly recommend, very happy with this product!
Bought these for Dually dodges. They fit without spacers for a replacement to the stock 235/80/17. I did not expect much tire life but was surprised. 42000+ miles before they were replaced. They have always been run hard. Empty weight on truck is 10400 and is typically at 14k to 16k without trailer. Bought 3 more sets for other duallies. Outlasts the other tire manufacturer in this size 3 to 1.
